RROY Update from Jeff Chester, the RROY Statistician:

Aug. 11, 2009

A few people have asked why they don't show up in the standings and every case so far has been folks who have run a number of series races, but haven't yet scored in the overall or age group categories.  The Consistent Participant awards of course do not require a runner to score RROY points to be considered, so I wanted to make sure folks have an opportunity to correct any errors there may be in determining who is meeting the consistent participant requirements.  The list of runners eligible for Consistent Participant awards is posted on the Series Info Page , along with the current standings.

The following five runners have clinched 1st place in their age groups, presuming they don't end up in the top 3 of the overall ROY (meaning the F30-34 and M25-29 age groups are really still up for grabs).
F30-34 Karen Blodgett
F50-54 Darlene Saeva (60 pts)
M25-29 Neal Holtschulte
M55-59 Mark Barry (60 pts)
M60-64 Tony Gingello (60 pts)

Other factoids About the Series So Far:

Runner Participation #s:
7 races - 13 runners
6 races - 23 runners
5 races - 31 runners
4 races - 49 runners (116 runners with 4 or more races)
3 races - 113 runners (the number of runners eligible for overall and age group awards could almost double after the next race is complete).
2 races - 442 runners
1 race - 2741 runners

The 13 runners with "Perfect Attendence" are:
Tim Dwyer Rochester
Ron Saxton Spencerport
Eric Lees Webster
Mark Barry Rochester
Patrick Milligan Rochester
Joseph Williams Rochester
Mark Heberger Rochester
Stephen Hedges Rochester
Alice Nichols Fairport
Lynda McGuire Scottsville
Charlotte Jaanimagi Pittsford
Jeffrey Coppini Rochester
William Murphy Rochester
The M50-54 group is the only one to have had at least 10 runners at each of the 7 series races to date. (Meaning you REALLY have to do more than just show up to score in that age group).

Although the top three age groups with the highest total participation in the series are M40-44 (354), M45-49 (350) and M35-39 (326), the age group with the highest participation (% of total participants) has been different for each race so far:
#1 -  RoG - M45-49 (9%)
#2 - Spring Forward -  M50-54 (11.6%)
#3 - Lilac 10K - M40-44 (9.3%)
#4 - McMullen Mile - M60-64 (11.4%)
#5 - ALS 5k - M20-24 (8.7%)
#6 - Ten Ugly Men - F30-34 (8.7%) - Ironic that this is the only one where a female age group had the highest % of participants.
#7 - Kuzma Bergen 5k - M30-34 (9.5%)
I'd like to think this means we've successfully selected races (so far) that appeal to a broad cross-section of the running community.
