July Trail News - Cobb's Lane Canal Trail relocation is underway. The Town of Perinton is actively working on the relocation of the Erie Canal Trail along Cobb's Lane to the East of Turk Hill Road. The photo below was taken looking West toward the Turk Hill Road bridge. The foreground shows some of the relocation that was completed last year. The separate canal trail is on the left and two lanes of a separate Cobb's Lane are on the right of the photo. The work underway will continue the separation of the canal trail from Cobb's Lane for another quarter-mile closer to the Turk Hill Road bridge. ![]() Once this segment is completed, the Town plans call for two more segments: 1. Relocate the section of Cobb's Lane closest to Turk Hill Road, completing the separation of the canal trail from the public road. Use of the canal trail to the East of Fairport Village should increase when trail users no longer have to share the trail with cars and trucks. 2. Construct a bridge over the Erie Canal connecting the canal trail with the Perinton Hikeway Bikeway. This bridge should greatly increase the value and use of the Perinton Hikeway Bikeway with the easy connection to the heavily used canal trail. Previously announced plans call for construction of the bridge to begin in the fall and be completed next summer. |
